David Pakman
David is a Partner at Venrock, and focuses on early stage investing in Internet and digital media companies. He was previously the CEO of eMusic, growing the business from $7M to more than $68M in revenues, after buying it from Vivendi Universal. Prior to eMusic, he co-founded Myplay in 1999, introducing the “digital music locker” concept, and subsequently sold the business to Bertelsmann’s ecommerce Group. Before Myplay, he was Vice President of N2K Entertainment, which created the first digital music download service, and was also the co-creator of Apple’s Music Group.
David earned a degree in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Board of Overseers for the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for ITHAKA and holds a board seat with the New York Venture Captial Association. He’s an avid musician and songwriter.
