Check out our CEO, Jack Welde and VP of Sales, Matt DeLoca hanging out with Mayor Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion! The mayor looks to be visibly worn out in this picture — probably due to Jack and Matt’s exhaustive summary of Smartling’s rapid growth — but we assure you he was very pleasant and makes his support for NYC tech companies known.
We love that our mayor has long supported our thriving tech community. His efforts have helped to change the course of New York’s role in tech history, and its future. In fact, the tech / information sector is now the second largest contributor to the city’s private economy. And according to Jonathan Bowles, executive director of the Center for an Urban Future, “The emergence of New York as a leader in internet startups and consumer-related tech companies has been the story. A lot of this would have gone to Boston if New York hadn’t developed this important ecosystem.” (Insert Yankees vs Red Sox joke here.)
We at Smartling are proud to be among the ranks of 1,000+ tech companies that help New York City continue to stand as the global media capital in the digital age.
Furthermore, our CEO, Jack serves as a mentor for Mayor Bloomberg’s NYC Venture Fellows program. The 2013 class of NYC Venture Fellows includes 30 entrepreneurs from eight different countries. Jack, alongside other executives and leaders of world-class organizations such as AppNexus, Collective[i], HUGE, IBM, LivePerson, Next Jump, Parsons The New School for Design, and Thrillist, offer their time and wisdom to help this devoted group of global entrepreneurs take their companies and ideas to the next level.
Where will these new businesses end up calling home? Like us, maybe there’s a chance they will base their company in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
New York, Smartling ♥’s you! And a big thanks goes to Mayor Bloomberg, for all he’s done for the NYC tech community.
