What Smartling’s Latest $10 Million Funding Round Will Mean

I’m delighted to announce that Smartling has successfully raised an additional $10 million of funding. This funding will enable us to aggressively ramp up our mission of making the Web truly multilingual. It comes from our existing investors, U.S. Venture Partners, Venrock and First Round Capital, together with a new investor, IDG Ventures.

Smartling’s cloud-based Translation Delivery Network has already rocked the foundations of the existing localization industry—which otherwise remains stuck in an inefficient and prohibitively expensive pre-Web 1.0 time warp.

More than 70% of current Internet users (that’s 1.4 billion people!) claim a language other than English as their primary and preferred one. The fact is that businesses of every size need a multilingual presence on the web—but until Smartling came along, only the biggest could afford it.

Now, with this new funding, we can step up the pace. I predict that before the end of 2011, website owners of any size will be using an updated Smartling platform to bridge the language chasm and reach people all around the globe in multiple languages, quickly and affordably.
