LONDON – 23 May 2019 – Smartling, the premier software and translation services company that established the Enterprise Translation Cloud category, today announces Move the World with Words™, a campaign dedicated to understanding the stories of human translators that compliment Smartling’s technology, at its Global Ready™ Conference at the Sofitel St. James in London.

Move the World with Words started with the idea that words move people and influence global business. They move people to action: to buy, connect and understand. Move the World with Words spotlights the passion for language that connects people across the globe. With this idea, Smartling partnered with storyteller and photographer Elisabeth Brentano to create a photo series about its translators all over the world, which is published online at smartling.com/translators. Later this summer, the company will release a book with stories and photographs.

“The human element of our work is overlooked in today’s digital age,” said Smartling Director of Brand Strategy and Communications Adrian Cohn. “Our translators play a vital role in our customers’ localisation efforts, and Move the World with Words helps to forge a deeper connection between our customers and translators. Without our translators’ extensive cultural knowledge, expertise and passion for translation, our customers wouldn’t be able to reach consumers anywhere today.”

One of the translators highlighted in the campaign is Daniel. Nestled in a village in Asturias, Spain with a population ranging from 15 to 50 people, high speed internet allows him to work from his home with a view of the Aramo mountains. “Without Smartling technology, I’d be spending a lot more time asking questions and looking things up than I would actually be translating,” Daniel said. “Not only does Smartling's translation platform have brand-specific style guides and glossaries, but it also has visual context and an option for translators to direct message the source content owners.”

At Global Ready Conference London, Smartling is also recognising customers for their excellence in managing translation. 2019 honorees include SumUp, The BMJ, Eurail, Perform/DANZ and Atlassian.

In addition to Move the World with Words, Smartling released a new platform experience at Global Ready Conference San Francisco, with new features including Dynamic Workflows, Smartling Draft and a feature that automatically selects the best machine translation option from leading engines based on the source and target languages.

“We translated 382 million words last year with more than 2,000 daily users of the Smartling platform,” said Smartling CEO, Jack Welde. “While we’re helping our customers reach more of their users than ever before, the next frontier for internet adoption provides the opportunity to further extend our reach. Countries like India, China and Africa are ripe for tech disruption, and we plan to bring the world closer by enabling our customers to reach their users around the globe.”

As a cloud-based translation management platform and language service provider, Smartling enables its customers to localise content across devices and platforms. Smartling’s Global Ready Conference is held 23 May at Sofitel St James in London. This year’s annual translation conference brings together more than 300 leaders in localisation, technology, and marketing, with speakers from OpenTable, Lyft, FedEx Express and Wix.
