Co-Founder & CEO
Jack is a technology early-adopter, serial entrepreneur, software patent-holder, product evangelist, and combat-decorated Air Force pilot. Before founding Smartling, he served as SVP of Product at eMusic and COO/CTO at SheSpeaks and RunTime Technologies. He also co-founded Trio Development, a software company that created the first personal information manager, which was acquired by Apple in 1993. He holds a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also studied linguistics and interned with Professor William Labov, and an MBA from Cameron University in Germany.
Jack was named one of Fast Company’s “Who’s Next” in 2011, and was named a 2013 NYC Venture Mentor by the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Co-Founder & CTO
Andrey joined Smartling after serving as VP of Technology at SpaFinder, where he developed and maintained the company’s website and e-commerce platform in six languages. Previously, he held executive positions at RunTime Technologies and consulted for JPMorgan Chase, where he was responsible for e-commerce, digital asset management, data warehousing, and other large-scale projects. He’s a native Russian speaker. He holds a BS in Computer Science from Brooklyn College and lives in New Jersey with his wife and children.
Adi is a seasoned finance and operations leader with more than 20 years of experience in the technology, media, telecom, and consumer services industries. Prior to joining Smartling, Adi was the CFO for Rhapsody International Inc., where he was responsible for strategy, finance, accounting, corporate development, and business intelligence. Adi has also held leadership positions at Sandler Capital Management, AirTouch Communications Inc., Hellman & Friedman, and Dillon Read & Co. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Adi, his wife Linda Ryan and their two teenage sons live in Larchmont, New York.
VP of Sales
Matt is a technologist through and through. Before joining Smartling, Matt led sales at The FeedRoom, prior to its acquisition by KIT Digital. He has also helped grow the business of several other digital media start-ups, including Virage and Cinebase. He began his career in field sales at Apple, selling into large enterprise accounts in New York. Matt earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and children.
VP of Client Services
Mark joined Smartling from Symantec, through its 2007 acquisition of Vontu. In these roles, he led the sales engineering and professional services teams, and established best practices for customer evaluations, including success at more than one third of the Fortune 100. Prior to Vontu, he managed product teams and served in pre- and post-sales roles at NetGravity, Connectify, and Kana Communications. He speaks Russian, German, and Czech, and is working on French. Mark holds a BA in Russian Studies and Russian Literature from Brown University. He lives in Montreal with his wife and children.
VP of Research
Nataly brings nearly two decades of translation industry experience to Smartling, most recently serving as Chief Research Officer at industry research firm Common Sense Advisory. Previously, she held positions at AT&T Language Line and NetworkOmni (acquired by Language Line), where she oversaw product development. She is a former Fulbright scholar in sociolinguistics, a veteran translator and certified court interpreter for Spanish, and has formally studied seven languages. She lives in the Boston area with her husband and daughter.
VP of Marketing
Judd came to Smartling from Salesforce.com Marketing Cloud through its acquisition of ExactTarget, where he was senior director marketing, EMEA. Prior to Salesforce, he held demand generation marketing and brand marketing roles at eBay Enterprise Marketing Solutions, Canon Australia, Black & Decker, and Nestle. He is originally from New Hampshire, and spent more than a decade living abroad in Australia and the United Kingdom. Judd holds an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and a BA in Marketing from Plymouth State University.
