The Challenge: Infrastructure to Manage Local Websites

Kollective’s offering is global in the sense that its very purpose is to bring people and teams closer together no matter where they work. As the company planned to enter the Asia Pacific region and Europe, Kollective needed a solution to transform its successful English-based marketing engine into other languages. This presented a number of challenges that we hear all the time:

  • Who will manage this process?
  • What tools can make this cost-efficient?
  • When can we launch?
  • Where will the language copies be hosted?
  • How do we review translated content?

When Kollective reached out to Smartling for help, they were looking for a standalone infrastructure to manage local language websites. This would not only enable scalability for long-term growth, but also their near-term sales strategy.

The Solution: Smartling

Enabled by Smartling’s Global Delivery Network (GDN), a solution that requires minimal developer involvement and compatibility with any CMS, Kollective can scale its website into any language without internationalizing its code. They’ve also fully automated the translation pipeline, from translation job creation through publishing new content on a rolling basis.

This rapid deployment was not only a reflection of Kollective’s integration with the GDN, but also what the GDN provided Smartling’s translators: visual context. Visual context renders a WYSIWYG editor in the CAT Tool, enabling the translator to select the right words based on its environment. The results speak for themselves: Smartling linguists translated the Japanese website with an internal correction rate of 1.12%.

Logan Brown, Marketing Manager, also attributed Kollective’s success to Smartling’s Managed Services offering, a professional service that serves as an extension to the customers’ marketing team. “Smartling’s Managed Services has enabled our team to take on even more languages. We are now working on a French website and we couldn’t do it without their support.’” Managed Services exists to alleviate the additional work that is inherent with supporting new languages, enabling individuals to focus on core competencies, and companies to launch new languages without hiring more resources.

What’s next for Kollective? A French-language site, further expanding its user base of global, non-English speaking users!
